Boat Services resume in Thekkady Lake

Boat servies in the Thekkady lake were resumed on Friday, 15th Jan 2010, with addtional security meaures and fewer seats.

Three boats owned by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation ( KTDC) and two boats of the Forest Department operate services.  Boat services in the Thekkady lake were suspended after the boat accident on the september 30th.

Life Jackets have been makde mandatory for the passengers.  The boats will have life buoys, fire buckets and hand box and mandatory tourist guidelines.  There will be a life gurard for every group of 25 tourists.  The number of serats in teh Forest Department's boats has been reduced from 80 to 75.

The 200-serater KTDC boat will now cary only 60 passengers.  The 60-seat capacity boat has been brought down to 40 and 40- seat to 20.
